Amazing

Caroline is amazing. I had too many "why didn't I think of that" moments. (It's a good thing).

Made understanding the ORCA process much easier

Caroline has been great! Her advice was really helpful and made understanding the ORCA process much easier for me. She has also been very kind while providing comments —Thanks Caroline!

Incredibly thorough feedback

The mentor experience has been a game-changer for my success in this program! I completed the self-paced curriculum without a mentor, and having gone through the cohort experience with one, I now feel significantly more confident in applying the curriculum. Caroline provided incredibly thorough feedback and encouraged me to delve deeper into my understanding of the material. Being able to ask questions and confirm my comprehension was immensely beneficial to my success in the program. I believe the mentor component is pivotal to success within the cohort.

Offered helpful input and insight

Caroline was great. She reviewed my posts and questions promptly and offered helpful input and insight. I felt comfortable asking her anything so I really appreciate having her as my mentor.

Caroline was a great mentor

She was always responsive and provided good detailed feedback for each of my assignments. I appreciated her for sharing her knowledge and getting me to think deeper about he concepts.

Detailed and thought provoking feedback

Caroline was very attentive to group calls and provided detailed answered when we met as a group. Caroline gave detailed and thought provoking feedback about each of my assignments, this helped me better grasp the complex matter I was working through.

Put her on the most complex problems you've got

Caroline is one of the brightest stars in the Object-Oriented UX community and over the years I've known her, she's taught me so much and helped me make OOUX what it is today. Caroline was part of the first cohort of the OOUX Certification Program and has become a popular mentor and leader within our world. Caroline's calm insights, well-rounded wisdom in design and technology, and ability to break down problems and explain them in such elegant and simple ways is invaluable! I highly recommend working with Caroline if you get the chance! Put her on the most complex problems you've got and I know she will blow you away!

Bio

I am a user experience professional with a passion for untangling complexity and an affection for people. I have proven expertise in UX/UI design, Object-Oriented User Experience (OOUX), UX/CX strategy, and UX writing. I am an Advanced OOUX Strategist. I enjoy public speaking. User experience is about service as much as (if not more than) it is about design. I love working on interesting projects with great UX and business challenges where a good outcome serves people and makes things better. I happily sit in the bridging role between the technical and non-technical. I enjoy designing experiences that are functional, elegant, make good natural sense, and let people get shit done as quickly and easily as possible. If I had to sum up what drives me in one sentence, both professionally and personally, it'd be this: I enjoy keeping things simple and making people happy. I am curious, flexible, adaptable, and confident in my ability to work through any challenge. My career path has included roles as communications generalist, business analyst, project manager, web designer, server-side software developer, and now user experience, both as a designer and leader. I have enjoyed each role for different reasons, and retain valuable lessons, experiences, and knowledge from each. My goals are to enjoy my work, grow as a design and people leader, help my team be successful, foster connections and collaborations between people, and do amazing work. Skills and specialties: UX/UI design, OOUX (Advanced OOUX Strategist), customer experience, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, user research, business analysis, project management, written and interpersonal communication, public speaking, and more than my share of the soft skills that are awfully hard to teach.

What

Caroline

says about OOUX

An excellent next step

When the opportunity for this Advanced Certification Program came up, I jumped on the chance to be part of the first cohort. Since about 2018, OOUX has been uncontested as my favorite design tool, so the opportunity to extend and expand my skills was a no brainer. Beyond gaining valuable insights on advanced topics that I can use in my own application of OOUX, I now feel firmly on the path to being able to teach and mentor others more effectively, as well as potentially market and sell my expertise in OOUX to help organizations design better systems.

If you believe in this approach and see the incredible value of OOUX like I do, this program is an excellent next step after the base Strategist Certification.

The most powerful tool I have in my design toolkit

I started practicing OOUX in 2018, and have never looked back. Even five years later, it remains the most powerful tool I have in my design toolkit, and is the first thing I recommend to new designers when they ask me how to build their UX skills. Working with clients across many industries on projects at all levels of complexity, OOUX has been a unifying force for awesomeness. It has allowed me to quickly bring cross-functional teams of business stakeholders, executives, marketers, developers, and architects to a shared understanding and common language on any project or initiative. OOUX has a failure rate of exactly 0% across every project I've used it on, regardless of how much of the methodology I've been able to apply. It has become key to my happiness as a designer, and I wouldn't ever want to be without it.

A pure power tool of a design methodology

I was already 100% sold on, and actively practicing, OOUX prior to this certification course. That said, one thing I know about Sophia is she's always optimizing, so I knew I'd still learn a lot (and I did). For me, OOUX is a pure power tool of a design methodology, and we've truly not found a single downside to it in our application of it thus far. Adding a certification at this point was both to continue to enhance my knowledge of the methodology, expand my OOUX network, and also lend further credibility to the OOUX work I'm already doing (and will continue to do). As far as I'm concerned, this is just one milestone in a long relationship and love affair with OOUX, and I'm looking forward to continuing to use it, teach it, and evangelize for it at every opportunity.
